Magical, mystical Peru
Peru has a colourful history dominated by the Spanish conquistadors, but it also has a much more ancient civilisation which is known by everyone - the Incas.

The 'lost city of the Incas' is the famous
Macchu Picchu, nestling high in the Andes and, nowadays, quite easy to visit, along with the 'sacred valley' of  Ollantaytambo and its fantastic fortress and town.
On the way you visit also many old Spanish settlements and see the extravagant colonial architecture in the form of churches and old administrative buildings, travelling there on
the highest steam railway in the world.

With the backdrop of the Andes and the friendly people dressed in their amazingly colourful clothes - the visuals heightened by the thin air at this high altitude - this is a true feast for the eyes and a holiday you will never forget.
Lake Titicaca and its famous floating islands and reed boats, so similar to Egyptian reed boats, is
another place which is truly breathtaking in its spectacle.  The people of the islands and their
amazingly large vegetables are further wonders of this mysterious high altitude country.
The only way to see them is from the air and from the capital city of Lima, it is easy to take a flight over the mysterious Nazca Lines on the Pacific plains.
A sight not to be missed

If you want more than to just view the Lines, then a few days in the Nazca area, will allow you time to walk the Lines and to see the famous cave mummies and other artefacts left for us by the ancient peoples who once eked out a living in this dry and inhospitable area.
