Orchid holidays and tours with NEI (UK) ....

South America deserves a lot of attention, when it comes to orchid 'hunting'.

Many orchids grow here and with these super tours to the highlands of Peru and the lowlands rain forests and mountains of Costa Rica, we would like to offer you the opportunity to see many of them growing in the wild. This tour takes you to areas not visited by the usual tourist to Peru - and all the ones which are, like the capital city of Lima, Machu Picchu and Cuzco.... you will see high altitude villages and towns, little touched by the 21st century and visit private orchid collections, never seen by anyone other than their owners.
In addition to this, you will see orchids growing in their natural habitat, to give you an insight into the best way to grow these plants when you get home again.

In Costa Rica we combine the best of a traditional holidays and blend it with plenty of time seeing orchids in the wild, in botanical gardens and at commercial growers. We even include a stay at a guest house, high in the mountains, which allows you to watch an active volcano - from a safe distance, of course! Add to this time on a beach to relax at the end of your trip and excursions to see wildlife and you have a terrific holiday which can be enjoyed by the orchid enthusiast and those who are not as orchid inclined.

Tours which should not be missed by anyone who grows South American orchids.

One of our directors, an orchid grower himself, is the man at NEI (UK) responsible for our decision to offer as wide a selection of orchid related tours as possible. Our eventual aim is to arrange such tours to every country where orchids grow, but for the time being we are happy to offer tours to Sikkim in northern India, Kerala in southern India, Sabah in Malaysian Borneo, peninsular Malaysia, Singapore and, new for 2007, Costa Rica.

Orchids will be seen growing in the wild,
in national and private collections;
commercial growers will be visited where this is possible and botanical collections made available for study.

Where it can be arranged, we will also have social evenings with the local orchid societies.

All tours will be accompanied by knowledgeable local guides who already have a particular interest in orchids, or who have been specially trained in the subject.

We do not expect you to 'rough it' on one of these tours - it isn't necessary.
Whilst orchids do not mind what we have to do to see them, we believe that such tours should be as comfortable as possible. We cannot guarantee five star hotels throughout all the tours, but we will always use the very best available hotels at each location, to provide you with comfort at the end of a day orchid hunting.

SRI LANKA - the beautiful island of 'serendipity'

Sri Lanka is not a place which immediately springs to mind when talking about orchids, but the island has a wealth of native orchids and there are many 'imports' grown in the various botanical gardens on the island.

We are very pleased to offer a super orchid tour to Sri Lanka which will take you to many wonderful places not normally visited by tourists. You will need to be prepared to spend a couple of nights under canvas in the forest (as well as many in very pleasant hotels and guest houses!), but the rewards will be well worth the effort.

We can't recommend this tour, planned for October 2008, highly enough. Use it to indulge your enthusiasm in orchids and also to visit one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Other tours we are planning for 2008, are

our celebrated tour, "Orchids Galore", taking you to Singapore and Sabah in Malaysian Borneo, including the world reknowed Singapore Botanical Gardens and its huge orchid collection which grows, mainly, in the open air! - high into the rain forest in Borneo, to orchid preservation gardens and study centres - with relaxing days to allow you to flop on a beach, visit a coral island or go shopping for those duty free bargains.

A trip to Sikkim, high in to the Himalayas in northern India to visit commerical growers and botanical gardens, private collections and, of course, to see orchids growing in the wild. This is a fascinating tour allowing you to experience not only the plants themsleves, but also the very different Indo-Tibetan culture. If you grow Coelogynes or Cymbidiums, or any f the other high altitude orchids from Asia, this is definitely your holiday!
