"Classic Burma" Yangon ~ Bagan~ Mandalay~ Inle lake ~ Ngapali Beach ~ Yangon 8 Days / 7 Nights In general the check-in and check-out times at all hotels, unless otherwise stated
in this itinerary, is between 1200 noon and 1400 hours. Day 01 Arrive at Yangon and sightseeing (based on morning arrival) Welcome upon arrival, you will be greeted by our representative who will accompany you as you transfer to the hotel. Yangon, formerly known as Rangoon, is a relatively quiet and charming city. Its impressive colonial and spiritual heritage makes it one of the most fascinating cities in Southeast Asia. Yangon sightseeing features the beautiful Kandawgyi Lake, Botataung Pagoda, which is hollow and through which you can walk and see many ancient relics and artifacts and Yangon downtown area and from there we walk along the Pansodan street which has many large colonial buildings which are still in use. It is also interesting to see the sidewalk markets including those selling old books and magazines dated from the 1960’s up to the present. Continue to colossal reclining Buddha Chaukhtatkyi and your tour finish with a visit to the awe-inspiring Shwedagon Pagoda which towers over all of Yangon. It is perhaps the most beautiful pagoda complex in all of Asia and is one sight that no visitor to Myanmar should miss. Overnight at Chatrium Hotel Day 02 Yangon/Bagan (flight) and Bagan sightseeing (B) Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to airport and take a domestic flight to Bagan. Sightseeing highlights includes Bagan’s distinctive pagodas such as Shwezigon, a prototype of later Myanmar stupas; Wetkyi-in- Gubyaukgyi, a 13th century ‘cave temple with interesting fine frescoes; Ananda Pagoda, one of the finest, largest and best presevered in Old Bagan; and next to it we visit Ananda Ok Kyaung, one of the few surviving brick monastery buildings from the Early Bagan period and Htilominlo Temple which is known to be the last Myanmar Style temple built in Bagan. As the sun goes down we will be at one of the ideal viewing sites selected by our tour guide for a panoramic sunset view over the temples. Overnight at Myanmar Treasure Resort Day 03 Bagan-Popa-Bagan sightseeing (B) Morning drive to Mt. Popa, which supposedly rose from the ground in a massive earthquake in 442 BC. Mt. Popa is famous as the abode of the Nats (Spirit Gods) and for its panoramic view of the local tropical region. There is a volcanic plug with a temple on top that we can climb up to if we like. On the way to Mt. Popa visit a local toddy palm farmer and see how toddy palm juice and sugar are produced. Afternoon sightseeing highlights include more of Bagan’s impressive pagodas such as Sulamani Temple built in by King Narapatisithu, Dhammayangyi Temple, a massive later period temple with the finest brickwork in Bagan and Thatbyinnyu Temple which towering above the other monuments of Bagan. Later we will go to the Shwesandaw Pagoda where the sunset views are excellent. Overnight at Myanmar Treasure Resort Day 04 Bagan/Mandalay (flight) and Amrapura-Inwa sightseeing (car) (B) After breakfast, transfer to airport and take a flight to Mandalay. On arrival, travel to the ancient royal capital of Amarapura. Here we will visit Mahagandayon monastery, which is a school for young monks, and the nearby U Bein bridge. It is more than two centuries old and at 1.2 km is the longest teakwood span in the world. Later we will visit another former royal capital, Inwa which was founded in 1364 and which lasted nearly 400 years as a royal capital. Highlights include the ' leaning tower of Ava', Maha Aungmye Bonzan, a brick-and-stucco monastery, and the elegant teakwood monastery Bagaya Kyaung. Overnight Mandalay Hill Resort Day 05 Mandalay sightseeing (car) (B) Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Today, Mandalay sightseeing includes the highly revered Mahamuni Pagoda; a gold leaf hammering craftshop, Shwenandaw Monastery, noted for its exquisite wood carvings; Kuthodaw Pagoda, renowned as the World's largest book for its 729 stone slabs containing the entire Buddhist scriptures, and if time permits Mandalay Hill for a view over the city and Ayeyarwaddy River. Overnight Mandalay Hill Resort Day 06 Mandalay/Heho (flight) and Inle lake sightseeing (B) After breakfast at the hotel, sometime will be at leisure before transferring to the airport for the flight to Heho. From Heho, a scenic one-hour drive leads to Nyaung Shwe, the gateway village to Inle Lake. Along the way, stop at the wooden Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery which features beautiful carvings and a collection of Buddha images. Upon reaching the edges of Inle Lake, board a private motorboat to head out to Inle Lake, one of Myanmar’s most spectacular sights. Pass villages built on stilts over the lake, inhabited by the local Intha people. Observe the leg-rowing fishermen and see their floating gardens built up from strips of water hyacinth and mud and anchored to the bottom with bamboo poles. Visit Nga Hpe Chaung Monastery, which houses dozens of Shan Buddha Images. Continue to Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the lake’s main sanctuary, which contains five sacred Buddha images covered in gold leaf. Explore the local crafts of Inle Lake with a stop at the weaving village of Inpawkhone and a cheroot factory, where the typical Burmese cigars are made by hand. If time permits, there may be time to enjoy a short walk through one of the lakeside villages. Overnight at Myanmar Treasure Resort Day 07 Heho/Yangon (flight) and Yangon transfer (B) Take a flight to Yangon. On arrival, transfer to hotel. Overnight at Myanmar Treasure Resort Day 03 Indainn sightseeing (B) After breakfast, from the middle of the lake, continue down a small canal leading to the Pa-oh village of In Dein. Explore the area on foot, strolling around the village, visiting a local school, and wander through the beautiful Alaung Sitthou area. Here you can climb the covered stairway to the top of a hill which is covered with picturesque ancient stupas and has magnificent views of the lake below. After your visit to In Dein, return to your boat and transfer to your hotel. Overnight at Myanmar Treasure Resort Day 04 Pindaya-Kalaw sightseeing (B) In the morning, drive to Pindaya which is noted for its extensive limestone caves filled with Buddha images. Driving there we will be passing through the PaO and Danu villages of Pwehla and Ji Chanzi and endless fields of dry cultivated mountain rice and potato. Inside the Pindaya Caves are nearly 8,000 Buddha images that have been placed there over the centuries as a form of merit making. Made of various materials and of different sizes, the statues are situated in every nook and cranny throughout the many cave chambers. After sightseeing, continue to Kalaw which is situated 70 km west of Taunggyi; the capital of Shan state and about 50 km from Pindaya caves. Kalaw sits high on the western edge of the Shan Plateau and was a popular hill station in the British times. It is still a peaceful and quiet place with an atmosphere remnant of colonial era. Sightseeing in Kalaw includes Nee Paya, a gold lacquered bamboo Buddha. Overnight at Amara Resort Day 05 Kalaw soft trekking and Heho/Mandalay (flight) (B) Today's trekking takes us to visit a village of the Palaung people (about 2-5 hour (one way) according to the clients). The trail takes you through mountains with the view of tea plantations along sides of the hills and vegetables gardens with villager’s houses located all along the ravines. It may be a difficult trip for older people but it is fascinating trekking with mountains, villages and of course with the people. In the afternoon, transfer to airport and take a flight to Mandalay. On arriving, transfer to hotel. Overnight at Mandalay Hill Resort Day 06 Amarapura-Mingun-Mandalay sightseeing (car/boat) (B) In the morning, travel to the ancient royal capital of Amarapura. Here we will visit Mahagandayon monastery, which is a school for young monks, and the nearby U Bein bridge. It is more than two centuries old and at 1.2 km is the longest teakwood span in the world. We will go to Mandalay jetty where we take a short and pleasant ride upriver to Mingun, the site of what would have been the world's largest pagoda had not King Bodawpaya died in 1819 thus halting all further work. Later an earthquake in 1838 split the monument and reduced it to partial rubble. Nonetheless, the mammoth base of the unfinished pagoda is still a very impressive sight as we approach from the river. Nearby we can also visit the Mingun Bell, moved from the zedi after the earthquake and now hung in a new shrine building. It is said to be the largest hanging un-cracked bell in the world. Return to Mandalay. Overnight at Mandalay Hill Resort Day 07 Sagaing-Monywa sightseeing (car) (B) After breakfast, proceed to Sagaing by driving over 1 kilometer long bridge across the Ayeyarwaddy River to Sagaing, a former capital of the Shan kingdom in the 14th century, and there are many interesting stupas scattered over Sagaing Hill. Then drive to Monywa for about 3 hours and half. Excursion across the Chin Dwin River to visit fascinating Hpo Win Daung and Shwe Ba Daung where are a system of impressive sandstone caves containing Buddha statues, wood carvings and fine mural paintings mainly in Innwa-style, some dating back to 15th century. Dozens of large and small caves with about 450,000 images are hidden in the area of the Hpo Win Hills. Overnight at Win Unity Resort Day 08 Monywa-Pakkoku-Bagan (car/boat) (B) Breakfast at your hotel. Monywa sightseeing highlights include the very colorful Thanbuddhay Pagoda and Hlaungdawmu Buddha, the second largest reclining Buddha in Myanmar. Then drive to Pakkou, a bustling tobacco trading center. En-route, visit Pakhangen Kyaung, Myanmar’s largest wooden kyaung, a 19th century structure with 332 teak pillars.
